For the daily visitors, locals and tourists to Saaleck Castle, the Lange family would like to create a place where people can take a break and stock up on cold organic wine, non-alcoholic drinks and regional food.
Since December 2024, the Wein- und Brotzeithäusle at the wine cellar of the Schloss Saaleck winery in Hammelburg has been inviting visitors to enjoy regional specialties around the clock. Whether after a hike through the historic vineyards or during a visit to Saaleck Castle – the self-service cottage offers a selection of cold organic wine, non-alcoholic drinks, regional sausage and cheese in a jar as well as Schüttelbrot (Rhönkracher).
Access is via the Lokbest app, which can be used after one-off registration and age verification. Digital payment is possible after scanning the QR code on the product’s price tag. Glasses, wooden cutlery and compostable plates are available for consumption on site. The cozy seating area in front of the cottage with a view of the castle invites you to linger.
The cottage was built sustainably, using second-hand building elements such as solid oak windows and a farmhouse cupboard. A solar balcony power plant on the roof supplies the refrigerators and lighting with electricity. The outer shell consists of untreated larch boards.
